This year's ONE RING CELEBRATION (ORC) put on by Creation Entertainment and
The One Ring.net was held in a much smaller venue
at the Burbank Airport Marriott in Burbank, California. The number of
attendees was significantly less than prior years (estimated at about
200-300 on Saturday.) but guests seemed to be in agreement that they liked
the new venue and Creation seemed to be more aware of the fans and attendees
felt like it was more relaxed than at previous events. In the main hall, a video was played which won a special award from
Creation. The video was a montage of Aragorn/Arwen moments set to a song
from the film and was created by an Australian girl and submitted for the
ORC. After the video played Billy Boyd (Pippin) came onstage to thunderous
applause. Billy remarked that he was caught up in watching the video and it
brought back lots of memories for him. He said that Viggo had actually
kissed him much more passionately than he had Liv Tyler!
Billy's baby son Jack and his partner Ali were in attendance along with his band mates from BEECAKE, the band that Billy is currently playing with. BEECAKE had performed a show last night at HotelCafe in Hollywood which was attended by fellow RINGS alumni Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom and Dominic Monaghan. The band also played a show tonight at the ORC for fans who had purchased special tickets.
The organizers set a high directors chair out for Billy and when he sat on
it, he was about 3 feet off
the ground and couldn't reach his water bottle
which was the source of much amusement for Billy and the audience. Billy was
in rare form and kept the guests in attendance the entire hour. He was
joking and laughing at questions he was
asked and went off on tirades on
Angels and wings, among other things. He said that the main thing that
Scottish accents have a problem with was the vowel "U". When he tells people
that he is going "surfing", they ask him why he is "suffering"?
Billy said he is currently working on "becoming a rock star" and the band
has a 5 song CD that they are currently selling at shows (also check

info). He also has a film coming out called GLEN in which he plays a
pianist.
Billy is always a great guest at conventions and just a generally likeable
guy.
