SHOOT EM UP Directed and Written by: Michael Davis Starring: Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, Monica Bellucci Rated: R Running Time: 1hour 26 minutes SHOOT EM UP should serve as a model to other filmmakers that you can take a script with very little plot and still make a kick-butt film. The basic plot of this film can be summed up in a few words - A pregnant woman is killed by the enemies of the babies father after the birth of her son, and an ex-special forces guy is in charge of keeping the baby safe - gunfire ensues. A lot of gunfire. SHOOT EM UP is just basically an excuse to shoot off a lot of rounds and have the actors look cool doing it. There are some really great stunts in this film and the dialogue is at times really funny while being wildly inappropriate. Basically it's just gunfire - but in a really cool way. Paul Giamatti is fantastic as the bad guy hitman Hertz. He is so over the top and makes so many interesting choices that you just want to watch him at every opportunity. Monica Bellucci is really pretty, a bit hard to understand at times and she does cry a lot, but she looks good. Clive Owen is fantastic. Amazing what can be done with a carrot.....He is sexy, funny, tough....the guys love him and the girls want to be with him. (Did I mention that he is nekkid? He is.) This film truly shows why he should have been offered the 007 role..... SHOOT EM UP is just a fun, pointless film but well worth your movie-going dollars. 4 out of 5 |
