| RENO 911!: MIAMI Directed by Ben Garant Written by: Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney, Thomas Lennon Starring: Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Mary Birdsong, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Carlos Alazraqui, Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash Rated: R Running Time: 1 hour 24 minutes RENO 911: MIAMI sees the cast of the highly successful Comedy Central TV show traveling to Miami for a Law Enforcement convention and becoming the only hope of saving the city from an evil drug lord. RENO 911! is arguably one of the best television shows on the air. The show is a spoof of "Cops" and other reality shows in that vein, but the cast puts their own take on it with loveable, if bumbling, characters and an amazing wit and improvisation that makes it a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, this comedy doesn't transfer to the big screen. While the television show uses the comedic timing and ability of it's cast to make the jokes, the film resorts to base humor and doesn't seem to be able to carry the central theme of the script throughout. While certain scenes are certainly hysterical, the overall feel of this film version is more of a PORKY'S vibe. Lots of off-color jokes and nudity coupled with childish sexual humor make this film very disappointing and certainly not appropriate for all ages or audiences. 2 1/2 out of 5 |
