| PERFECT STRANGER Written by: Todd Komarnicki Jon Bokenkamp Directed by: James Foley Starring: Halle Berry, Bruce Willis, Gary Dourdan (CSI) Running Time: 1 hour 49 min. Rated: R Investigative reporter Rowena (Berry) goes undercover to expose Ad agency guru Harrison Hill (Willis), whom she believes to be responsible for the death of her childhood friend Grace. She begins to temp for his company and begins an online relationship with him hoping to get him to reveal his guilt. While the story for PERFECT STRANGER has many twists and turns in the script, it really tries too hard to be an enticing thriller. It never really succeeds. The plot is really easy to follow and figure out well before the reveal. Unbelievably, Halle Berry is horrible in this film. I want to blame it on the script and the direction as I think she is quite a good actress but here she looks as though she is auditioning for a bad soap opera. Everything is over dramatic and she doesn't have any real connection to any of the other actors. Gary Dourdan is only in a couple of scenes and really don't serve much purpose other than to beat the audience over the head with the upcoming plot twists. Bruce Willis isn't bad and Giovanni Ribisi is really good as Miles, an investigator who works with Rowena at the newspaper. This film really doesn't grab the audience's attention for more than a few minutes at any time and many of the scenes seem to serve much purpose. There is some gratuitous nudity and sexuality as well as violence present. All in all, many other better choices exist for you film viewing pleasure. Rating: 1 1/2 out of 5 |
