Domino

By : Suzanne Philips

Domino, directed by Tony Scott, is loosely based on the life of Domino Harvey, a former model turned Bounty Hunter who recently passed away in L.A.

The film stars Kiera Knightly as Domino, Mickey Rourke as Ed Moseby, and Edgar Ramirez as Choco, which form the team of Bounty Hunters. There is a really amazing cast in this film which also features, Christopher Walken, Lucy Liu, Mena Suvari, Tom Waits, Delroy Lindo, Mo'Nique, Ian Ziering and Brian Austen Green(of 90210 fame), Dabney Coleman and Jaqueline Bissett.  All of whom are really good in this film.

With such a diverse and well rounded cast you would think it would be a good film right?!  You would be wrong.  Going into a Tony Scott film you have to expect some gratuitous violence and degradation of women.  So keeping this in mind, I set out to watch this film.  The first thing that caught my eye was the use of color and camera style. Lots of Green, Orange, Yellow and shadows, which was really interesting for about 10 minutes, then it got old really fast.  A technique only works if you use it in moderation, not for 2 1/2 hours!  Also the shaky camera "guerilla" style photography was really distracting.  While it works for certain scenes, you can't use it all the time or it becomes really boring.

It was really frustrating because I think there was a pretty interesting story here but with the direction and the cuts between present and flashbacks, there is no time for a linear story to develop.  I would imagine that if you were taking a large amount of drugs, you would probably find this film amazing.  It seems to be directed for people with ADD - if you have an exceptionally short attention span you might enjoy it more than I did.

I am really glad I got this ticket for free.  I would say if you really have to see it, wait for the rental..

So my review is 1 out of 5 rings......
