The Interpreter

I saw "The Interpreter" today - It was a really good film, better than I had
expected to be honest. I LOVE Sydney Pollack and love almost anything he has
anything to do with but to be honest I didn't have a burning need to see this
film when they were first advertising it. I am glad I did as I was soooo
wrong. The story is really moving and relevant and definitely worth the time
(over 2 hours it is a little long).

Sean Penn, who I think is a brilliant actor and a very strange human being,
was outstanding as anticipated. He really doesn't ever need to resort to the
Al Pacino (the louder you are the better) school of acting, he is really
understated and you feel as thou you are listening in to a private conversation many
times during his performance.

Nicole Kidman was equally great. I have some issues with her, I think she
gives really outstanding performances and some that are equally crappy, she is
just not consistent. But she really does an outstanding job here and I think
this might be the best role she has ever had.

The direction was great, the colors in the film and wonderful and overall a
very worthwhile experience.

Of course the 3rd trailer was for "Flightplan' starring Jodie Foster and
........sigh....Sean Bean.....Looks great but here was my issue. You show me a
trailer of a film with Sean in a very crisp and form fitting Pilot's uniform
with his voice and get me all bothered and then tell me I can't see the film till
SEPTEMBER?!?!?!?!?!? that is just cruel....people in prison get better
treatment.....

Also saw the new Kingdom of Heaven trailer. much better than the old one,
represents the film better, the music is very now and timely and I think it might
help to attract a younger crowd to see the film which I guess it what they
are aiming for.

Anyway....just checking in!
