| Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2006 -- Brooks Institute of Photography
announced today two of its faculty members and two students have been
selected to screen their short films at the upcoming LA Shorts Fest,
September 5-14, 2006. The screenings will be at the Arclight Theatre, 6360
W. Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, California. LA Shorts Fest is the world’s
largest exhibitor of short films, last year exhibiting more than 600 films
from 58 countries. For more information about attending the festival and

Glynn Beard, program director and faculty member for the Film & Video Production program at Brooks, will present "Exit," the third in his nine-film series entitled "Ocean of Storms." The film, which Beard wrote and directed, focuses on a middle manager who snaps under pressure from his boss to “make the numbers work.” The results of the employee’s breakdown are horrifying. Preceding "Exit" was Beard’s film "Son," which screened at last year’s LA Shorts Fest and recently earned the award for 'Best Short Drama’ at the Lake County Film Festival in Illinois. "Son" has also been selected to screen at the Brooklyn Independent Cinema Series in New York on September 5, 2006. "Exit" will screen on Sunday, September 10, at 10 p.m., in theater 12. Cinematographer David Waldman, an instructor at Brooks as well as a working photography director with numerous productions to his credit, will be presenting his film "A Through M." Waldman’s work in High Definition 24P has shown at festivals throughout the world and on the Independent Film Channel. "A Through M" will screen on Monday, September 11, at 5:45 p.m., in theater 9. Michael (Drew) Renaud, a student in the Brooks Institute Film & Video Production program, directed two short films both screening at the LA Shorts Fest. His project "Disconnected" is about a vulnerable 19-year-old girl who becomes emotionally numb after witnessing her father’s stay at a hospital. "Street Angels," which he shot with the help of fellow Brooks student Ryan Kohler, was shot in San Diego, California. Says Renaud, “A street angel is someone that has, most of the time, been let down or forgotten. This person is also known as a homeless teen and unfortunately the street angels count is rising." "Disconnected" will screen on Tuesday, September 12, at 5:30 p.m., in theater 12. "Street Angels" will screen Friday, September 8, at 5:45 p.m., in theater 9. Aaron Riggs, also pursuing a Film & Video Production degree, has been invited to screen his documentary, "Paragliding: The Liberation." The film follows a team of paragliders as they pursue their lofty adventures, exploring their motivations and desires. Riggs was assisted in the production by fellow Brooks student Augustin Gonzalez. "Paragliding: The Liberation" will screen on Sunday, September 10, at 9:45 p.m., in theater 13.
