County music night at the Off Limits? Yep, that's right from metal to country Off Limits has them all. Photo Gallery - band and fan photos
This is a great dance band. I think I would call their style country swing, not too country, not too rock. This is a group that I would recommend to just about anyone. Very enjoyable to listen to. You can't listen to them and sit still.
We met with the band members after the set and they were a blast! Lee Simpson is a very talented genuinely nice person with an unaffected style. While the band is named the "Lee Simpson" band it appears to be very much a group effort. Simpson's ego doesn't run the show.
Simpson stepped aside to let Bruce McMillan take the lead singers position with "A Little Piece of the Sky". McMillan who plays the guitar and Slide-y thing according to their website says that he if keeps practicing he can one day become, "a skinny, pale guitar nerd". How can you not love this guy? According to his bio he lies about being able to play the dobro and other slide-y things.
They made for a very enjoyable evening and I would like to see them play again.
I have to say that I was impressed when Richard March played "Wildwood Flower" for his sound check. This is a classic country song by Mother Maybelle Carter from way back when. My father had a copy of it on one of those old thick records that always seem to stick unless you have a penny taped to the arm. I was impressed until I realized he was very young and was most likely playing "Wildwood Weed". After listening to the band I changed my mind back to "Wildwood Flower". March at times came across as a young Johnny Cash.
We talked with the band after the show and March seemed stand offish and a little out of place in Chico. The other band members were fun and fan friendly. My notes totally suck, so I don't have everyone's names straight.
This is a good dance band. March encourages the audience to dance a gave a copy of his CD to a very talented couple.
