ED

by: Losillė

Chat Room

Ed is a three piece band out of Corning, CA. I know what you are saying right now, "Where the fuck is Corning, CA?". Corning is 10 miles south of Gerber.

Dane,  18, lead singer, drummer.

Computer Nerd

T-Bor, 19,  guitar, song writer, back up vocalist.

Hopeless  romantic.

Rein, 17, guitarist, back up vocalist.

Tortured Soul.

Ed 23, isn't actually a member of the band. He is more of a figure head, advising, training, helping in numerous ways, but content to stay in the back ground.

The Interview

T-Bor writes most of the songs, both the lyrics and the music. Dane is the lead singer.

Losillė:  T-Bor writes a song...

Dane: Yes

Losillė: You sing it...

Dane: Yes.

Losillė: and you don't like it. Do you tell him or do you sing it anyway?

Dane: I just sing it anyway.

Losillė: (joking) So he just puts words into your mouth and you are ok with that?

Dane: Sometimes...

Dane: I ask him the story. What were the feelings when he wrote it? He gives me a book and there  are a lot of lyrics it and I pick one that works with the song.

Losillė: So when his girlfriend asks, you can blackmail him because you know what the song is really about?

Dane: Yes, exactly.

Losillė: What would you like the fans to know about you as a group?

Dane: We are normal people.    (Let me note here, that this is from a man who later told me he thinks he sees his dog everywhere and that he thinks people look like certain animals.) We like to have a lot of fun.

T-Bor: (sounding doubtful) I don't know about normal.

Dane: (admitting he had been liberal with the truth) We are not normal people, no. Actually, we are more like the people that don't get famous. We play a lot of video games and do a lot of really dorky stuff but we play music so it evens out. That's what we would like them to know.

T-Bor:  We are just out to have fun.

Losillė: (to Rein who hadn't said a word) Do you ever say anything?

Rein: I am the quiet one.

T-Bor and Dane: He is the quiet one.

Dane: Do not speak until spoken to...

Losillė: Do you lead a tortured life?

T-Bor: He is the tortured soul.

Losillė: There has to be one in every group. One for all the women to cut their wrists and go insane for.

Dane: That's pretty fair. He gets all the women.

Losillė: There is one in every group. We have to take the most pictures of you?

(Rein was embarrassed, the signal for the other two to start teasing him.)

I had heard the group on My Space, but had never seen them play. I was confused. Dane is the lead singer and the girls usually go for the lead singer first. Then filter out to the other band members. Dane is gorgeous with a sensuality about him that should have worked. When I saw them play the mystery was solved. Duh! He is the drummer. The girls can't see him. The cymbal was right in front of his face.

Losillė: The girls usually go for the lead singer first? (It was a question more than a statement.)

Dane: I don't know. I have been told it is lead sing, then drummer, then guitarist,

T-Bor: Then drum tech, then roadie, all the other people in between, then the bass player is down here at the bottom.

Break in interview for some business.

Losillė:  We were saying you are computer nerds?

Dane: I would be the computer nerd, he (Rein) is the console nerd.

Losillė: What kind of nerd are you?

T-Bor: Me? I don't know. I don't play on computers. I am a nerd that sits in his room and doesn't do anything.

Dane: He is a nerd that writes by candlelight.

Losillė: OMG! That is so romantic.

Dane: He is a hopeless romantic.

T-Bor: I let these guys get all the girls. It keeps them busy and while I to do all the work. Otherwise, if I had a girl no one would do the work.

Dane: True

Losillė: (mock horror) The girls don't do the work for you!?!? God, I HAVE to have a talk with you guys!

I stopped the tape her to give T-Bor some advice about writing angsty love songs. When  "Crab Song" is recorded,  I hope he mentions me in the CD liner notes.

Losillė: Where do you guys want to be in a year?

Dane: Hopefully on big stages. Big venues.

T-Bor: Not Corning

Dane: Not Corning

T-Bor: Not that it is bad, it is just that we have been there for four years.

Dane: Love the locals, love everything about Corning. We hope to come back someday and be very, very famous.

Losillė: You are not signed?

Dane: No we are not signed.

Losillė: Are you going to go with a smaller label and hope to be picked up by a bigger label or go straight for a big label?

Dane: Hopefully, like a half way big label Rise Records they are kinda connected to Victory and they could just kick us up if we end up getting bigger.

T-Bor: Work our way up the ladder.

Losillė: Have you submitted songs to them?

Dane: Yes, but we haven't gotten anything back from them.

Losillė: Tell me about yourself, nothing too personal, nothing you don't want to see in the National Enquirer when you are famous, five years from now. ( I wouldn't print anything too personal, I would save it and sell it to the National Enquirer when they are famous five years from now.)

Dane: I play a lot of video games. I don't know...left handed? I don't know how to say this without getting a little bit personal. I have this thing...thinking my dog is everywhere. Someone mentions something about a dog, I go, "Ed?"

Losillė: There are drugs for that you know? And some are legal.

Dane: (on drugs) I am sure that when the band become big...being in a band, someone is going to take drugs and the band will completely fall apart and then it will go through recovery like other big bands.

Losillė: You could have therapy like Metallica.

T-Bor: I am the one that is going to go on drugs, find God and get out of it.

Then we can have the reunion tour.

Losillė: Tell us about you.

Rein: I lived in Fairfield before moving to Corning.

Losillė: Where?

Rein: Fairfield, the Bay Area (San Francisco). It was a big change going up to Corning. After moving from Fairfield to Corning I have opened up a lot. Being more out going, I used to be a real shut-in kinda of guy. Every now and then when I get nervous and stuff. That kinda comes back and I get quiet and stand offish and other than that I work and go to school.

Losillė: Hobbies?

Rein: I usually just hang out with friends a lot. I can't stand being home for more than about 3 hours before going insane. I just go around and hang out with friends and do nothing. Just play guitar and sometimes pick up some kind of weird instrument and just try and learn that.

Losillė: What instruments do you play?

Rein: Guitar I have been playing that for about 7 years now...7 coming on 8 years.

Losillė: Who influenced you the most?

Rein: Who influenced me the most? That was my guitar teacher back in sixth grade. He is the one that really got me to go die hard into the guitar and just really sit down and work on it each day, to push myself to try harder, to get better and better. It was my guitar teacher that mainly did that.

Losillė: You really don't do anything?

T-Bor: I really don't, besides go to Corning and listen to a lot of people.

Losillė: Play on the computer?

T-Bor: No, I am not the computer guy. (points at Dane) That's the computer guy.

Losillė: (gasp) You do have a computer? I don't think it is legal to live in CA without a computer.

T-Bor: Yes, I have a computer. I check my MySpace...every...once a month.

Random stuff

Dane: I do look at people and try to figure out who looks like what. ({Pointing at my assistant Dallon Foster) He looks like a bird. (To Dallon) You look like a bird.

T-Bor: He sees people that look like animals.

Dane: Sometimes it comes to me sometimes it doesn't. Just a little weird fact.

Losillė: Who is the most high maintenance person in the group?

T-Bor: This one (Rein) before the show. This one (Dane) is high maintenance during a show. He (Rein) freaks out about what shirt he is going to put on...if it is clean.

Losillė: (to Rein) You are a metrosexual?

T-Bor:  (nods yes) He is a metrosexual. He (Dane) freaks out about having water, drum moving...

Dane: He isn't even T-Bor on stage, he disappears, becomes someone else.

We ended the interview and I went in to catch the show. They are very professional and sophisticated and I was really surprised when I found out how young they were. I hope to spend some more time with them in the near future. Rein is so photographic,  a photographers dream come true. Dane has that sensual quality I would like to capture on film. T-Bor doesn't realize how sexy he is, so I am going to have to do something very HOT when I photograph him. (I am willing to make that sacrifice.)
