When we walked up to the all ages show at Fulcrum Records, Boy Tiger
was already performing. To be honest I had no idea what to expect when
I was driving down to Chico. What I saw was one woman at a mic with an
acoustic guitar in her hands performing great melodies and rhythms.
Ok we decided to give it a shot and stayed. Then I started listening
to the words she (Bethany Miller) was singing.  That sealed the deal
and I was hooked. I can't remember well enough to repeat the songs but
I do remember them being great. In Boy Tiger, you see Bethany on stage
telling stories in song that will always apply to everyone and be
interpreted differently as well. All races, sexual orientations, and
mutations will be able to listen to her and identify with what she is
saying. Boy Tiger is abstract and also is herself, what you see is
what you get, interpret it however you would like to. She likes what
she is doing, is enthusiastic about it and that shines through in her
performance. Next weekend she will be going in to start her first EP
which is tentatively due to come out in November. When you see Boy
Tiger on a list of acts for the evening where ever you are, make sure
to pop in and check her out like we did. Awesome performance I will be
seeing her again.

Personal Side Note: Bethany's personality really shines through. She
has the attitude of "if you like me, great. if not, that is great
too." I wish more personalities like that were floating around.

In Praise of Folly - http://www.inpraiseoffolly.net/
Coming all the way from Seattle Washington to Fulcrum Records in Chico
is  a band called In Praise of Folly. To give you a brief history of
the band you can click  here
Again I had no idea what to expect walking in this place. This band is unique in that the lead singer is also the drummer. That is typically hard to pull off
with having to stand up and sit down constantly. Benjamin did it well
though. In talking with him I think he said it best when he stated
"our music takes a few listens to get into it." Their short set had a
multitude of rhythms, melodies, harmonics and time changes. No one
song was like the one before or after. The four piece blew up the
room. I especially liked watching Peter. It is obvious he loves
playing guitar and it shows up in his performance. All four members
would like the public to know that they have a new record out in
stores called "Means/ends." If you are in the Seattle area they can be
heard on 107.7FM with  a request.

Personal Side Note: I loved how Benjamin's left thigh was the
metronome for the evening. Great stuff.
